Dartmoor Cycle Training Camp - 22-28 September 2014

The Dartmoor Cycle Training Camp offers you a unique opportunity to take your cycling to a whole new level. Specifically designed for the Sportive cycling enthusiast, our training programme adopts a holistic approach, with structured training rides, skills sessions & seminars covering the complete range of subjects essential to sportive & endurance based cycling. When you leave our camp you will have the requisite knowledge and skills necessary for you to effectively prepare and train for your cycle events, maximising your opportunity to achieve your true potential.

This intensive, one week, residential course runs from Bellever Youth Hostel, nestled right in the heart of Dartmoor National Park, guaranteeing all your rides will be amidst the most beautiful scenery in the South West of England.

This cycle training camp is organised and run by local cycling specialists, all of whom share a passion for cycling and have an intimate knowledge of the roads in and around Dartmoor National Park. The training schedule that we have put together for you is not just guided rides on Dartmoor. This is a well crafted week of progressive cycle training that will cover all of the key elements of road cycling through structured training rides, skills sessions, and seminars.

We pride ourselves in the fact that our dedicated instructors are residential on each course so that they are always accessible for you to consult with.  Even before you arrive we will be available to answer questions and provide you with support and advice in preparation for this camp. On your first day with us you will complete a cycle-fitness assessment and private consultation with a cycle coach. We will then recommend which of our ability groups you should join to ensure that you receive a good standard of training throughout the week, consistent with your ability and training objectives.

During the day, each group will complete a structured training ride. Before you commence your ride you will receive a clear briefing on your 'training objectives' for that session. The distance and intensity of the daily rides will vary between groups and dependent on fatigue levels within the groups. Some rides will be short but high-intensity whilst others will be longer, endurance based rides that are lower intensity. All our rides are supported by two ride leaders, mechanic, medic, and a recovery vehicle. Energy drinks & snacks will also be supplied for all rides. 

On your return you will receive a recovery drink, and after you have showered and changed you will have a post-ride recovery session, essential to facilitate muscle recovery in preparation for your next day's ride. During this time you will have the opportunity to reflect on what you have learnt and ask any questions you may have. There is also an optional Sports & Remedial Massage service available every day should you require.

We have a resident mechanic and cycle fitter to ensure your bike is correctly set up for you and working properly at all times. There is also a dedicated cycle storage barn where you can clean, maintain and sesurly store your bike(s) We supply all the tools and kit for you to be able to do this, and are staff are always on hand to assist if you require. Our mechanics are always happy to assist with bike repairs. We carry a small stock of essentail spares which can be purchased if required. 

Each evening, after a 3 course evening meal at the Youth Hostel, we run a series of training seminars, details of which can be viewed under the training schedule.

On the Saturday we have a 'Sportive Experience' ride where you will be able to put in to practice all of the skills you have learnt over the week and in the evening we take you out to the Warren House Inn for a traditional Dartmoor meal.

On Sunday all groups go out together for a relaxed social ride, and a traditional Dartmoor Cream Tea before course dispersal.

How Much does it Cost?

The price for this residential cycle training camp is £595. We are limited to a maximum of 26 places so a deposit of £95 is required to reserve your place. The remainder must be paid by 1st September 2014. 

During the training camp there will be opportunity for you to have a professional bike fitting with Ride Cycle Fitting, for additional sports or remedial massage treatments and Sports Taping with Total Fitness. These are optional extras and are not included in your booking fee. We will supply all the tools and materials you will require for the daily cleaning and maintenance of your bike. We will also have a mechanic available to assist you with any mechanical problems. However, any replacement parts required during the week will need to be purchased. We will have a small supply of common parts available to cover most eventualities and will get you to a local bike shop if we do not have the parts you need.

Who Should Attend?

This is a ROAD Cycle Training Course and is suitable for anyone who is seeking to improve their bike handling and cycle fitness. Our rides are all coaching based sessions and not simply guided rides around Dartmoor. Due to the intensity of a weeks consesutive training rides, we recommend that you should be capable of riding a minimum of 20 miles per day on four consecutive days. You will also require a serviceable road bike - the course is not suitable for mountain bikes or persons under the age of 18 years.
